building futures

As the owner of Buena Vista Custom Homes, Roger Pollock is committed to building more than just great neighborhoods; he is also committed to fostering the communities which live in them.

In 2002, not long after he started Buena Vista, Pollock started the Profit Partner program, even though his new company had yet to turn a profit. The program teams his company with area charities, who receive a portion of the proceeds from every home that Buena Vista sells.

Pollock has focused the program on organizations that help at risk youth and those recovering from issues of addiction and substance abuse. The ongoing nature of the relationship between Buena Vista and its profit partners reflects his wish to form a true partnership with these organizations. To date, the program has contributed over half a million dollars to
area charities.

Buena Vista currently supports eleven Profit Partners in the greater Portland area. But now that Pollock’s company was recently named both the fastest growing home builder in the country and the fastest growing business in Oregon, Pollock has plans to expand the profit partner program even further to include as many as thirty area non-profits.

“This program means so much to us,” Pollock said. “It has been a goal of mine to develop a business that is in a position to help others in need and we are fortunate to do so. I tip my hat to each of our partners and all the hard work they do everyday.”

Roger Pollock does not just support local charities financially - he also supports them with his time and energy. He has been a mentor at the St. Mary’s Home for Boys and an Alcohol and Drug Abuse Hotline Volunteer for Oregon Partnership. He also frequently coaches youth sports like soccer, baseball, and football.

“Roger Pollock is a remarkable guy who not only helps kids through his financial support of nonprofits, but he’s also a father running a multi-million dollar custom home building company who still finds time to be a community volunteer,” said Leslie Ford, President and CEO of Cascadia Behavioral Health. “He translates talk into action, and inspires anyone who hears his story.”

Last year Cascadia opened a recovery and reintegration center in SE Portland that it named the Buena Vista House, in honor of Pollock’s company. In 2004, CASA of Clackamas County named Buena Vista as its Donor of the Year.

Roger Pollock wants to set an example of how to give back to the community through a partnership and relationship that matures and grows over time. By creating an on-going program, the Buena Vista Profit Partners will be benefactors of the success and growth of Buena Vista Custom Homes. Pollock hopes that other CEO’s and companies use his business model to create their own programs designed to give back to their communities through non-profit organizations and charities, nationally or locally.
